Certain cotton and textile workers are at increased risk for developing clinical byssinosis.
Synonyms for byssinosis: cotton dust asthma, cotton stripper's asthma, cottonmill fever, Monday morning fever
Risk factors for clinical byssinosis:
(1) high levels of cotton dust exposure
(2) number of years employed in a cotton mill (in the implementation, I will assign 1 point for each decade)
(3) cigarette smoking
Cotton mill jobs associated with a high level of cotton dust exposure:
(1) gin machine operators
(2) openers
(3) strippers
(4) grinders
(5) workers who clean and maintain processing machines
Wearing of effective respiratory protection reduces the risk.
