Description

The CEAP (Clinical, Etiological, Anatomic, Pathophysiologic) classification for chronic venous disease of the lower extremity uses a clinical score to monitor the clinical severity of the venous disease. This can be monitored over time to evaluate disease progression and response to therapeutic interventions.

Parameters used for clinical score:

(1) pain

(2) edema

(3) venous claudication

(4) pigmentation

(5) lipodermatosclerosis

(6) ulcer size

(7) ulcer duration

(8) ulcer recurrences

(9) ulcer number

Interpretation:

• minimum clinical or disability score: 0

• maximum clinical score: 18

• maximum disability score: 3

• The higher the score, the more severe the disease.
