Description

Kahaly et al used a clinical activity score to monitor patients with acromegaly. This can be used to monitor a patient over time and to evaluate the response to therapy. The authors are from Johannes Gutenberg University Hospital in Mainz, Germany.


Subjective parameters:

(1) headache

(2) arthralgias

(3) hyperhidrosis

(4) paresthesias

 

Subjective parameters for males:

(5) impotence

 

Subjective parameters for females:

(5) menstrual abnormalities

(6) galactorrhea

 

Objective parameters:

(1) macroglossia

(2) acral (extremity) enlargement

(3) thyroid goiter

(4) voice changes

(5) carpal tunnel syndrome

(6) visual disturbances

(7) hypertension

(8) diabetes mellitus

(9) ring size for the fourth finger

(10) shoe size

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score for males: 45

• maximum score for females: 48

• The higher the score the more severe the acromegaly.
