Description

Callum et al classified arteriomegaly based on findings seen on arteriography. Patients with arteriomegaly are at increased risk for aneurysmal and thrombus formation. The authors are from St. Thomas' Hospital in London.

Arteriomegaly involves enlargement of an artery in length and diameter.

Parameters seen on arteriograms:

(1) distribution of changes (absent vs localized vs generalized)

(2) dilation

(3) elongation with tortuous course

(4) stenosis or occlusions

A patient found to have angiographic evidence of arteriomegaly should be evaluated to exclude aneurysm (using ultrasonography or computed tomography).
