Description

Infections of the eye other than conjunctivitis can be diagnosed by meeting one of two criteria.


 

Criteria 1 - one or more of the following:

(1) organism isolated from culture of anterior chamber

(2) organism isolated from culture of posterior chamber

(3) organism isolated from culture of vitreous fluid

 

Criteria 2 - all 3 of the following:

(1) at least two of the following

(1a) eye pain

(1b) visual disturbance

(1c) hypopyon

(2) no other recognized cause

(3) at least one of the following:

(3a) physician's diagnosis

(3b) positive antigen test on blood

(3c) organism isolated from blood culture
