Waldinger divided patients with premature ejaculation into 4 categories.


 

Categories:

(1) lifelong premature ejaculation

(2) acquired premature ejaculation

(3) variable premature ejaculation (includes normal variation)

(4) perceived or imagined premature ejacation (premature-like ejaculatory dysfunction)

The patient with lifelong premature ejaculation has had the problem since becoming sexually active and with most or all sexual partners.

 

Acquired premature ejacuation may be a result of:

(1) a problem in the relationship

(2) medical illness (thyroid disease, urologic disorder, etc)

(3) psychological stress
