Description

Swimming regularly may cause some people to develop acne.


 

Risk factors:

(1) increased oiliness of the skin (“swimmer’s shine”) secondary to increased sebum production.

(2) occclusion of skin pores

(3) other risk factors for acne

 

Clinical features:

(1) The acne may appear or become worse with regular swimming.

(2) The acne improves or disappears once the swimming is discontinued.

 

Isotretinoin may interfere with performance of competitive swimmers.
