Description

Reid et al reported the Alcohol-Tobacco-related Comorbidities (ATC) index to describe the comorbidities seen in tobacco and ethanol enthusiasts. The comorbidities include those identified by the U.S. Surgeon General and  IARC. The authors are from the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and NIH.


Smoking-related:

(1) chronic pulmonary disease

 

Alcohol-related:

(2) alcoholic gastritis

(3) pancreatitis

(4) alcoholic cirrhosis

 

Cardiovascular disease:

(5) alcoholic cardiomyopathy

(6) cardiovascular disease

(7) hypertension

(8) peripheral vascular disease

 

Cancer

(9) lung cancer

(10) esophageal cancer

(11) bladder cancer
