Description

Pancreatic ischemia can result in acute pancreatitis.


 

Diagnosis:

(1) evidence of acute pancreatitis (biochemical, imaging)

(2) presence of one or more conditions associated with ischemic pancreatitis (see below)

(3) exclusion of alternative causes

 

Conditions associated with ischemic pancreatitis:

(1) shock

(2) postoperative (cardiopulmonary bypass, other)

(3) thrombosis (hypercoagulability, other)

(4) sickle cell disease with vaso-occlusive crisis

(5) other embolic (atherosclerotic debris from aortic aneurysm, other)

(6) other vascular disease (vasculitis, arteriosclerosis, vasospasm, aneurysm, etc)

(7) status post pancreas transplantation
