Dogs can contribute to the health of their owners in several ways.
Some conditions where dogs have been known to detect medical problems:
(1) epilepsy ("seizure dog")
(2) hypoglycemia in diabetes mellitus
(3) possibly cancer
In addition to helping to detect health issues, dogs offer
(1) companionship to patients who often feel vulnerable or anxious.
(2) an incentive to mobilize outside
