A significant percentage of healthy patients have an elevation in the ST segment of precordial leads of the ECG.
Features:
(1) elevation in the ST segment in V1 to V4, most marked in V2
(2) concave shape
(3) the patient is healthy with no elevation in serum troponin concentration
The "male" pattern is an elevation >= 1 mm (typically 1-3 mm). This is seen in 93% of men 17-24 years old and 30% of men over 75 years of age.
The "female" pattern is an elevation less than 1 mm (20% can have an elevation >= 1 mm).
