Description

Sumarsono et al evaluated the impact of hypochloremia on prognosis for a patient with decompensated cirrhosis. The authors are from UT Southwestern Medical Center, Parkland Memoiral Hospital, University of Texas Houston, and Cedar Sinai Medical Center Los Angeles.


Patient selection: decompensated cirrhosis

 

Electrolytes were measured on samples drawn between 12 hours before and on ICU admission.

Patients with hypochloremia had a higher MELD-Na score. A score > 22 was associated with a higher risk of mortality.
