de Groot et al reported a simple score for predicting upper gastrointestinal bleeding in an adult taking NSAIDs. The authors are from University Medical Center Utrecht in The Netherlands.
Patient selection: adult taking low-dose aspirin therapy
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) sex
(3) anemia
(4) aspirin therapy
(5) anticoagulant therapy

= SUM(points for all of the parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 10 (11 in paper but this requires counting all age points)
• A score of 0 to 1 is considered low risk for GI bleeding, with the risk close to 0
• The risk of bleeding increases as the score increases.
• A score >= 8 is associated with the highest risk of bleeding.
