De Cuyper et al reported risk factors for congenital hearing loss in a neonate born with congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection. These can help to identify a patient who may benefit from an in-depth hearing assessment. The authors are from multiple institutions in Belgium.
Patient selection: intrauterine infection with cytomegalovirus (CMV)
Risk factors for congenital hearing loss:
(1) petechiae at birth
(2) periventricular cysts on brain MRI
(3) maternal seroconversion in the first trimester
