Description

Khanna et al reported the PRODIGY score to identify a patient at increased risk for opioid-induced respiratory depression. This can help to identify a patient most likely to benefit from closer monitoring. The authors are from PRODIGY Group Collaborators.

PRODIGY = Prediction of Opioid-Induced respiratory depression in patients monitored with capnography

Patient selection: opioid-analgesia

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) sex

(3) opioid naive

(4) sleep disorder (obstructive sleep apnea, other)

(5) chronic heart failure

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 39

• The higher the score the greater the risk of opioid-related respiratory depression.

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve was 0.83. The sensitivity, specificity, PPV and NPV are less impressive.
