Wang et al evaluated patients with seizures following traumatic brain injury. This can help to identify a patient requiring careful antiepileptic management. The authors are from Chang Gung University and National Sun Yat-Sen University in Taiwan, Republic of China.
Patient selection: seizures associated with traumatic brain injury
Outcome: assessed using the Seizure Frequency Scoring System
Classification of seizure onset:
(1) early: onset < 7 days after trauma
(2) late: onset >= 7 days after trauma
Predictors of a non-excellent outcome (disabling seizures):
(1) neurosurgical intervention
(2) late-onsetprovoked seizures during the acute phase of traumatic brain injury
