A number of drugs and toxins other than alcohol may be associated with steatohepatitis.
Diagnosis:
(1) presence of steatohepatitis
(2) documented exposure to an implicated drug
(3) exclusion of an alterntive diagnosis
(4) resolution of the steatohepatitis after the drug is discontinued
Drugs:
(1) amiodarone
(2) aspirin (Reye's syndrome)
(3) chemotherapeutic agents
(4) cocaine
(5) corticosteroids, high dose
(6) diltiazem
(7) irinotecan
(8) methotrexate
(9) nifedipine
(10) NSAIDS
(11) nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI)
(12) perhexiline maleate
(13) sulfasalazine
(14) tamoxifen
(15) tetracyclines
(16) valproic acid
Toxins:
(1) cadmium chloride
(2) carbon tetrachloride
(3) toxic oil syndrome
