Description

There are many types of dietary carbohydrates. Some are absorbed and converted to sugar (digestible), while others are not.

Source of information: nutrition label

Parameters:

(1) total carbohydrates in grams

(2) fiber in grams

(3) sugar alcohols in grams (erythritol, isomalt, maltitol, sorbitol, xylitol). These may be only partially absorbed from the GI tract, and, if absorbed, they may be quickly excreted in the urine.

The simplest equation for net carbs:

net carbohydrates in grams =

= (total carbohydrates) - (fiber)

If sugar alcohols are included:

net carbohydrates in grams =

= (total carbohydrates) - (fiber) - (erythritol in grams) - (0.5 * (other sugar alcohols in grams))
