4-Methylethcathinone (4-MEC) is a second-generation synthetic cathinone.The cathinones are a group of chemicals related to the phenylalkylamine extracted from Khat (Catha edulis).
Activity: amphetamine like
Desired effects:
(1) mood elevation and euphoria
(2) stimulation with increased energy
(3) emotional openness
(4) hallucinogenic effects
(5) increased libido
Undesirable effects:
(1) craving, which is usually short-lasting
(2) mild depression
(3) insomnia
(4) hyperthermia (may be found naked)
Risk factors for an overdose, which can be fatal:
(1) intravenous injection
(2) strong desire to redose
(3) polyabuse
