Description

Lemmens et al developed an indexed blood volume equation for obese and morbidly obese patients. The authors a re from Stanford University.

Patient selection: obese or morbidly obese

Parameters:

(1) body mass index (BMI) from height in meters and weight in kilograms

indexed blood volume in mL per kg =

= 70 / SQRT((BMI) / 22) =

= 70 * SQRT(22) / SQRT(BMI) =

= 328.329 / SQRT(BMI)

Figure 1 shows the line running from 10 to 70 kg per square meter.
