Some drugs may interfere with a drug screen for lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD).
Drugs reported to interfere with immunoassay screens for LSD:
(1) fentanyl
(2) mucolytic agents (ambroxol)
(3) sertaline
Pearls for handling a positive LSD drug screen:
(1) always confirm a positive immunoassay screen with a more definitive assay
(2) question a result that is inconsistent with the clinical scenario
(3) check the patient's drug list against the list of drugs known to interfere with the assay
