Description

Meyer et al reported several equations for predicting energy requirements for a pediatric patient who is being ventilated in the intensive care unit (ICU). The authors are from Imperial College London, University of Crete, South Bank University and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit London.

Patient: pediatric patient on ventilator in ICU, <= 18 years of age

Parameters:

(1) weight in kilograms

(2) age in years

estimated energy requirements in kcal/day if < 3 years of age =

= (88 * (weight)) - (37 * (weight)) - (0.7 * ((weight)^2)) + 92

estimated energy requirements in kcal/day if 3 to 10 years of age =

= (88 * (weight)) - (37 * (weight)) - (0.7 * ((weight)^2)) + 110

estimated energy requirements in kcal/day if 11 to 18 years of age =

= (88 * (weight)) - (0.7 * ((weight)^2)) - 910

Performance:

ª R-squared is 0.829.
