Description

Brown et al developed several equations for predicting the total blood volume in adult females. The authors are from the University of California San Francisco and University of California at Berkeley.

NOTE: The authors are the same as in the previous section.

Subjects were adult females mostly in their 20's and 30's.

blood volume in mL =

= (35.73 * (body height in cm)) - 2320

blood volume in mL =

= (47.16 * (body weight in kg)) + 864

blood volume in mL =

= (16.52 * (height in cm)) + (38.46 * (weight in kg)) - 1369

blood volume in mL =

= (2885 * (BSA in square meter)) - 1131

The parameters for these equations are the summations for the parameters in the equations for plasma volume and red cell volume by the same authors, below.

Performance:

• The standard deviations were from 308 to 366 mL.

• The coefficient of variation ranges from 8.6 to 10.2%.
