The Institute of Medicine (IOM) has released criteria for the Myalgic Encephalitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). It also suggested renaming it the Systemic Exertional Intolerance Disease (SEID).
Criteria - all of the following:
(1) all of the following
(1a) substantial impairment in activities (occupational, educational, social, personal)
(1b) present for > 6 months
(1c) accompanied by fatigue, which may be severe
(1d) not life-long
(1e) not the result of excessive exertion
(1f) not substantially alleviated by rest
(2) post-exertional malaise
(3) unrefreshing sleep
(4) one or both of the following:
(4a) cognitive impairment
(4b) orthostatic intolerance
