Patient selection: status post massive blood transfusion
(1) acute hemolytic transfusion reactions
(2) febrile nonhemolytic transfusion reactions (if leukocyte filter not used)
(3) transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI)
(4) transfusion-associated circulatory overload (TACO)
(5) allergic reaction
(6) bacterial sepsis
(7) hypocalcemia and hypomagnesemia
(8) hyper- or hypokalemia
(9) acidosis
(10) hypothermia (if blood warmer not used)
(11) dilutional coagulopathy
(12) dilutional thrombocytopenia
Delayed complications:
(1) delayed hemolytic transfusion reaction
(2) transfusion-related immunomodulation (TRIM)
(3) microchimerism (if leukocyte filter not used)
(4) transfusion-transmitted infection
(5) post-transfusion graft-vs-host disease (GVHD)
(6) post-transfusion purpura
