CoMOD Echocardiographic Score of Bartolacelli et al for Predicting Neonatal Surgery for Aortic Coarctation in a Newborn with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA)
Bartolacelli et al reported the CoMOD echocardiographic score for evaluating a patient with patent ductus arteriosus and suspected coarctation of the aorta. This can help to identify a patient who may have neonatal surgery to treat the coarctation. The authors are from Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria di Bologna.
CoMOD indicates coarctation probability model.
Patient selection: newborn with patent ductus arteriosus and coarctation of the aorta
Parameters (LSA is left subclavian artery and LCA is left common carotid artery):
(1) arch diameter between LCA and LSA (D3) in mm
(2) aortic isthmic diameter (D4) in mm
(3) bicuspid aortic valve (BAV)
(4) LCA to LSA distance in mm
(5) ventricular septal defect (VSD)

Interpretation:
• A score > 0 predicts surgery.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve is 0.94.
