Most patients with cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) do not have visceral involvement. However, the possibility should be considered if certain findings are present.
When to consider the possibility of visceral leishmaniasis:
(1) fever
(2) hepatosplenomegaly
(3) immunosuppression
(4) pancytopenia
(5) positive antibody titers to Leishmania
(6) other laboratory markers of visceral leishmaniasis
