Description

DeRemee et al developed a simple classification for clinical organ involvement in patients with Wegener's granulomatosis. The authors are from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester.

Organ

Code

ENT (ear, nose, throat, upper airway)

E

lung

L

kidneys

K

These may used alone (except for kidney involvement) in the various combinations of 2 or 3 organs. Necrotizing glomerulonephritis alone (K) is not considered specific for Wegener's granulomatosis.

Possible combinations:

(1) E

(2) L

(3) EK

(4) EL

(5) LK

(6) ELK

Midline granuloma pattern: E

Limited patterns: L, EL

Classic patterns: EK, LK, ELK
