blackwater

greywater

water from washing, typically from sinks and showers/baths

food waste

where:

• Blackwater waste needs to be distinguished from blackwater in bodies of water. The latter refers to water with a black color, which has a high organic content and very low oxygen content.

Water from a storm sewer is handled separately from waste water although it can contain animal waste and chemicals.

In houses blackwater and greywater may go into the same sewer line for treatment. In mobile homes, ships or other situations they may be kept separate since processing requirements are different.
