Description

Vasospasm with Raynaud's phenomenon may affect the skin of the scrotum. A period of vasoconstriction with decreased perfusion is followed by vasodilatation with increased perfusion.

Clinical features:

(1) An episode is triggered by exposure to cold or vibration.

(2) The skin undergoes a sequence of changes, initially with pallor and/or cyanosis followed by erythema

(3) The changes may be accompanies by numbness, tingling, burning or pain.

The vasospasm may be limited to the scrotum or it may be part of a more generalized process affecting the digits, ears, nose or other sites.

If the condition is associated with a systemic disorder that triggers cold-induced vasospasm then it is termed secondary. If no cause for the condition is found then it is termed primary.
