Trying to get in touch with a homeless person can be very difficult since the person has no fixed address. This may be important for certain health issues or in the event of a family emergency.
Ways of getting in touch with a homeless person:
(1) leaving a message someplace
(2) contacting an acquaintance
(3) trying to call
(4) paging a beeper (if the person deals drugs)
(5) sending mail
(6) having the police or someone look for the person
Factors that may make communication more difficult:
(1) disaster
(2) bad weather
(3) illness or disability (the person will be unable to go to usual haunts, but on the other hand may be in a fixed location)
Even if found communication with a homeless person may be difficult:
(1) the person may not be able to comprehend or understand instructions
(2) the person may not be willing to comply
A person who is homeless also may have difficulty reaching others in an emergency.
