Description

A patient may show transient peanut hypersensivity following transfusion of fresh frozen plasma (FFP). Other allergic reactions could follow by the same mechanism.

Synonym: transfusion-transmitted atopy (TTA)

Features:

(1) The patient does not have a past history of peanut allergy.

(2) The patient is transfused with fresh frozen plasma (FFP) prior to the onset of the peanut allergy.

(3) The patient is now hypersensitive to peanuts.

(4) The donor of the FFP has a history of severe peanut allergy.

(5) The patient gradually loses the peanut hypersensitivity over 1-2 months as the IgE from the FFP is cleared.

The donor should be excluded from future donations.
