The total SYNTAX score is a summation of all of the lesions identified on coronary angiography. This can help to describe the complexity of the coronary artery disease seen in some patients.
Parameters:
(1) number of lesions scored
(2) for each lesion:
(2a) general points for segmental involvement
(2b) points for a lesion at a bifurcation or trifurcation
(2c) extra points
total SYNTAX score =
= SUM(points for lesion 1) + SUM(points for lesion 2) +….+ SUM(points for the last lesion)
Interpretation:
• minimum SYNTAX score: 0
• maximum SYNTAX score: 100 or more (depends on the number and extent of lesions)
• The higher the SYNTAX score the more complex the coronary artery disease
