Wolkerstorfer et al used the Three Item Severity (TIS) Score to evaluate patients with atopic dermatitis. This is a simple score that is suitable for monitoring patients in general practice. The authors are from University Hospital Rotterdam, Erasmus University and Glaxo Wellcome in The Netherlands.
Parameters:
(1) erythema
(2) excoriations
(3) edema and/or papulations
Each parameter is scored according to the following scheme, based on the most representative lesion:
Degree
Points
none
0
mild
1
moderate
2
severe
3
total score =
= SUM(points for all 3 parameters)
Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 9
• The higher the score the more severe the atopic dermatitis.
