Description

The PIP Joint Synovitis Score is a clinical measure of arthritis based on the synovial changes in the proximal interphalangeal joints of both hands . This can be used in conjunction with other clinical and laboratory findings to determine the overall severity of Rheumatoid Arthritis in a patient. The authors are from the Haywood Hospital and University of Keele in Stoke-on-Trent in England.


Joints evaluated: 10 proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joints of the left and right hands

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 30

• The higher the score, the greater the involvement of the PIP joints.
