Description

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH-CPSI) is a self-administered questionnaire for measuring the symptoms of chronic prostatitis and the impact on the patient's life. The index was developed by the Chronic Prostatitis Collaborative Network.


Domains:

(1) pain or discomfort: 8 items (in 4 questions)

(2) urinary symptoms: 2 items

(3) quality of life impact: 3 items

Interpretation:

• minimum subscore and total score: 0

• maximum pain subscore: 21

• maximum symptom subscore: 10

• maximum quality of life subscore: 12

• maximum total score: 43

• The higher the score, the more severe the disease.

 

Performance:

• The questionnaire has been found to be valid and reliable.
