Description

The Conflict Tactic Scales (CTS) can help detect the behaviors used to resolve conflict within a family or intimate relationship. The Husband Form A is used by the husband or wife to describe his or her perspective on conflict resolution. The author is from the University of New Hampshire.


 

The instrument consists of 14 questions to be answered by the husband, with 3 subscales:

(1) reasoning

(2) verbal aggression

(3) violence

reasoning subscale =

= SUM(points for statements 1 to 4)

 

verbal aggression subscale =

= SUM(points for statements 5 to 9)

 

violence subscale =

= SUM(points for statements 10 to 14)

 

Interpretation:

• minimum subscale value: 0

• maximum reasoning subscale: 20

• maximum verbal aggression subscale: 25

• maximum violence subscale: 25

 

Each subscale can be converted to a percentage:

 

subscale percentage =

= (subscale value) / (maximum subscale value) * 100%
