Description

A waived test can give accurate results provided it is performed correctly. The CDC has the requirements for running a waived test.


 

Testing requirements:

(1) No unresolved problems in the pretest checklist (above), with the testing system functioning properly.

(2) The patient specimen is properly labeled.

(3) The patient specimen is appropriate for test protocol.

(4) Required reagents are added in the prescribed order.

(5) The test result is read according to the test instructions (no sooner and no later than indicated, etc.)

(6) The results are written down immediately or available as a print-out.

(7) The results are reported in the appropriate units.

(8) The results are recorded in the patient's medical record.

(9) A log of the testing performed is maintained.

(10) A confirmatory test is performed if indicated.

(11) All waste is disposed of appropriately.

(12) All reagents and unused testing equipment are stored properly.
