Description

Ay et al developed the Recurrence Risk Estimator at 90 days (RRE-90) for estimating the risk of recurrent stroke. The authors are from Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Broad Institute and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.

NOTE: The score is available on-line at www.nmr.mgh.Harvard.edu/RRE-90/

Outcome: recurrent stroke at 90 days

Recurrent stroke was defined as a new area of brain infarction seen on imaging as distinct from the index lesion

Parameters:

(1) multiple infarcts of different ages

(2) multiple acute infarcts

(3) simultaneous infarcts in different circulations

(4) isolated cortical infarcts

(5) history of TIA or stroke within the month preceding the index stroke

(6) admission CCS subtype

where:

• The point assignment for admission CCS subtype for B is from the footnote to Table 3 and the data in Table 1.

score model A =

= (points for history of TIA or stroke) + (points for CCS subtype for A)

score model B =

= (points for multiple infarcts different ages) + (points for multiple acute infarcts) + (points for multiple simultaneous different circulations) + (points for isolated cortical infarcts) + (points for history of TIA or stroke) + (points for CCS subtype for B)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score for model A: 4

• maximum score for model B: 6
