Description

Fugl-Meyer et al developed a protocol for physical and functional assessment of a hemiplegic patient following a stroke. The examination is divided into various sections, including an assessment of coordination and speed of movement of the lower extremity. The authors are from the University of Goteborg in Sweden.


 

Parameters:

(1) tremor

(2) dysmetria (problem judging the distance in a muscular action)

(3) speed (time, swiftness of motion): speed of the heel-to-knee test done 5 times, with affected side compared to unaffected slide

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 6

• The higher the score the worse the coordination and speed.

 

This can assess dyscoordination and sluggishness in movements to a patient with near normal or normal range of motion and strength.
