Description

The amount of flammable and combustible liquids that can be stored in a laboratory depends on the area and manner of liquid storage.

where:

• The laboratory area is as defined by fire-resistant walls and doors.

• A safety cabinet should be located according to local fire recommendations. Usually it is desirable that this be against an outer wall to the building.

• Any room with flammable or volatile liquids should be well-ventilated.

 

Procedure:

(1) Identify all flammable and combustible liquids in the laboratory.

(2) Measure the square feet in each section.

(3) Determine the storage limits for each section.

(4) If supplies on open shelving exceeds limits, then evaluate the impact of safety cans and/or safety cabinet. If this amount exceeds limits, then the liquids need to be relocated to a suitable storage area.
