Description

The burden of a kidney stone is determined by its size.

burden of a single stone =

= 0.785 * (maximum length in mm) * (maximum width in mm)

where:

• 0.785 = PI()/4

• The equation is for the cross-sectional area of an ellipse.

total stone burden =

= SUM(stone burden for all stones present)

The higher the total stone burden the more severe the nephrolithiasis.
