Description

The storage of a hospital's clean linen supply should be adequate to meet the needs of the patients and staff.


 

Ventilation and temperature:

(1) The room should be kept on positive pressure ventilation.

(2) Ventilation should be adequate to prevent accumulation of dust and lint.

(3) The temperature in the room should be maintained between 68 and 78°F.

 

Environment:

(1) The room should be free of lint and dirt.

(2) The room should be free of vermin.

(3) The room should be cleaned on a regular schedule sufficient to maintain cleanliness.

(4) There should be no water drains or hot water pipes in the room.

 

Storage conditions:

(1) The room should be officially designated for clean linen storage and used only for clean linen.

(2) The top of stored materials on the top shelf should be 12-18 inches below the ceiling, depending on local fire codes.

(3) The bottom shelf should be 6 or more inches from the floor.

(4) The shelves should be on wheels or located 1-2 inches from the wall to facilitate cleaning.

(5) No supplies should be stored directly on the floor.

 

Access:

(1) Access should be limited to appropriate personnel.

(2) The room should not be accessible by visitors.

(3) The door to the room should be kept closed except as needed for direct access.
