Description

Certain signs or symptoms in an infant may indicate an underlying infection. These should exclude the infant from attending a child care center. If noted while the infant is already at the child care center, the parents or guardian should be notified and medical care sought.


 

Findings:

(1) fever (rectal temperature > 101°C, or > 38.3°C)

(2) rash with fever

(3) diarrhea (loose stools that cannot be contained within a diaper)

(4) vomiting

(5) unusual tiredness

(6) poor feeding

(7) persistent crying or irritability

(8) breathing difficulties

(9) persistent coughing

(10) yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice, being careful to observe in natural light)
