Description

Sexual dysfunction is relatively common in men with chronic prostatitis and the chronic pelvic pain syndrome.


 

Sexual dysfunction in a male with chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain:

(1) decreased interest in sex and decreased arousal

(2) erectile dysfunction

(3) premature ejaculation or other ejaculatory disorder

(4) pain on ejaculation

(5) an ejaculate with an abnormal appearance

(6) infertility associated with decreased release of sperm

 

Factors contributing to the sexual dysfunction:

(1) advancing age

(2) comorbid conditions (diabetes, etc)

(3) medications

(4) severity of irritative symptoms (incontinence, frequency, etc)
