The Serrated Polyposis Syndrome (SPS) is a familial disorder formerly called the hyperplastic polyposis syndrome.
A person is said to have SPS if any of the following is present:
(1) The patient has a first-degree relative with SPS AND the patient has 1 or more serrated polyps proximal to the sigmoid colon.
(2) The patient has >= 5 serrated polyps proximal to the sigmoid colon AND >= 2 are > 10 mm in diameter.
(3) The patient has > 20 serrated polyps anywhere in the colon.
