Description

Titscher et al reported the Self-Inflicted Burn Typology (SIB-T) to describe patients with self-inflicted burns. This can help to determine an appropriate response to avoid recurrent episodes. The authors are from the Vienna Burn Center and the Medical University of Vienna.

The reactive group are often male, often under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and are overwhelmed by a negative life event.

 

The delirious group may include transient psychosis or delusions which may be related to illness, substance abuse or other potentially reversible cause.
