Scrotoschisis is a defect in the scrotal wall, allowing one or both testes becoming extruded (extracorporeal ectopia). Several hypotheses have been proposed for its occurrence (rupture in utero, failure in scrotum development, meconium, other)..
Clinical findings:
(1) defect in the scrotal walls
(2) ectropia of one or both testes
Complications:
(1) torsion of a testis
(2) infection
Differential diagnosis:
(1) iatrogenic trauma at the time of delivery (may be considered by someone unfamiliar with scrotoschisis)
(2) trauma with damage to scrotal wall
