Description

Salpinigitis Isthmica Nodosa (SIN) is uncommon. Its etiology is uncertain but it may be post-inflammatory.


 

Clinical features:

(1) There are one or more areas of nodularity along the isthmus of the tube.

(2) It is often bilateral.

(3) Microscpically the nodular lesion show

(3a) small diverticula of benign tubal epithelium surrounded by hyperplastic smooth muscle or connective tissue

(3b) partial obliteration of the normal lumen

 

The abnormalities in the tubal lumen may be demonstrated using hysterosalpingography.

 

Complications:

(1) infertility

(2) ectopic pregnancy

 

Differential diagnosis:

(1) tubal endometriosis
