Description

Mueller et al evaluated patients with atrial fibrillation after minimally invasive coronary artery bypass graft surgery. The authors are from Centre Universitaire Vaudois in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Risk factors identified in multivariate analysis:

(1) significant arteriosclerosis in the right coronary artery

Additional risk factors seen on univariate analysis:

(1) age of the patient (mean 67.7 +/- 5.9 years)

(2) presence of diabetes mellitus

Risk factors proposed in discussion:

(1) failure to revascularize a diseased right coronary artery during bypass grafting

(2) right ventricular dysfunction in patients with inferior myocardial infarction

Patients who developed atrial fibrillation were treated with intravenous amiodarone.
